Manchester United legend Gary Neville has been impressed by the local talent during his tour of India.

The former captain, who retired in February 2011 after making 602 appearances for the Reds, made the trip in his capacity as club ambassador and was impressed by the passion shown for football in the local community.

He told manutd.com: “The enthusiasm shown by the kids was fantastic. I did part of the training session with the kids, spoke to the coaches and understood what it is that they’re looking to do. The plan the coaches have shared is impressive.

"Young players taking part in Soccer Schools programmes are taught using the same principles that players like myself, Ryan Giggs, and Paul Scholes were taught at Manchester United.

"As well as helping the youngsters to learn technical football skills, it’s also about developing confident individuals who will learn about tactics, healthy lifestyles and social skills."
