Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed that former Manchester United star Gary Neville helped him as he underwent a positional change.
During the earlier years of his career, Wilshere mainly played as a more advanced midfielder.
However he has since been utilised in a deep-lying midfield role by manager Arsene Wenger.
"It was Gary Neville who first said to me about playing as a deeper midfielder and even I was like 'What are you talking about?'," Wilshere told the Evening Standard.
"He explained it and I really enjoyed playing there for England. It worked quite well.
"At that stage, the way the England team was set up, OK of course I had to defend - I was the last midfielder – but there wasn't that sole responsibility on defending.
"As I've got older, I've got better and Bournemouth helped me with the defensive side of my game and understanding that side of midfield."
