Man Utd legend Law expects new Rooney record to be broken

Denis Law believes Wayne Rooney's soon-to-be sole England scoring record will one day be broken.

The Manchester United star scored his 49th goal for England in Saturday's 6-0 win over San Marino which drew him level with United legend Sir Bobby Charlton.

Rooney is certain to break the 45-year-old record soon, perhaps on Tuesday night against Switzerland, but another former Red Devils star is of the belief that the Three Lions skipper may also be overtaken such is the trend of modern day football.

"Records are there to be broken, somewhere along the line. I'm sure I broke someone's record at United," the Scotland great told Sky Sports News HQ.

"It's inevitable, particularly with the amount of games they play and on the pitches they have these days, which are made for goalscorers.

"I'm sure Sir Bobby will take it well. He is a good lad, was a fantastic player and will always be up there with the best.

"Who knows how long Wayne's record will last? Bobby's was supposed to be there for all time but they play so many games now that it will be broken."
