Man Utd legend Law defends Berbatov

Manchester United legend Denis Law insists Dimitar Berbatov is a top signing for the club.

United fans loved Law’s bravado and the bravery, and it’s that kind of devilment that they want to see from £30.75m Berbatov – a striker who divides opinion at Old Trafford.

Law told the Sunday Mirror: “Maybe the pressure of the fee has got to Berbatov a little bit because I speak to a lot of United fans and it is clear the jury is still out on him. They remember players like Van Nistelrooy and Cantona and they think that Berbatov should be the same kind of player because he cost £30m.

“My attitude is that it doesn’t matter if a player costs £1m or £30m, if he is an improvement on what you’ve got.

“I can’t really understand why some people get so angry when he doesn’t run 30 yards to close down a full-back.

“That wasn’t why Sir Alex bought him, and he never did that at Spurs. He is a laconic kind of guy and I think the key is getting him the ball in front of goal and letting him do what he does best.”
