Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand says Sir Alex Ferguson's 'hairdryer' was no myth.

Ferdinand was speaking to the Oxford Students' Union.

“The hair dryer treatment was true," he said. “I was on the end of it a few times. He was great at looking at you and seeing what makes you tick.

“When I first got there I thought he was a lunatic! He used to hammer people. But as time went on he became more placid. But he wanted to be the best – and he was."
