Man Utd legend Cole slams Arsenal: No winning mentality

Manchester United legend Andrew Cole has taken aim at former club Arsenal. Cole came through the youth system at Arsenal and feels Robin van Persie made the right choice leaving in the summer.

"Arsenal are a great club, but Van Persie left because he wants to win something," the 1999 treble-winner told the Manchester Evening News. "He's 29 now. No disrespect to Arsenal, but every season it's the same - they don't look like they will win the championship.

"They play well. They play a great brand of football, but Van Persie made his mind up that the time was right to join United.

"It's down to the individual - he came out from the start and said he wanted to join, not for the money, but to win things. There are a lot who go to certain clubs and we all know why.

"To be honest, even if he'd stayed there I don't believe Arsenal had a chance of winning the championship.

"I don't know if their players have the mentality to win it. They seem a bit flaky. That's not enough to win the Premier League. It is about ups and downs and when you look at their team you think who's got the spirit to win games?

"You've got to dig deep to win."
