Man Utd legend Cantona playing himself in Ken Loach film

Eric Cantona is back in Manchester shooting a new movie.

The Manchester United legend is playing himself in 'Looking for Eric'.

And Cantona, who spent six seasons at United and proved the catalyst for their domestic revival, revealed his delight at being back in his adopted home.

"I want the world to speak even more about the Manchester United fans after this film," said 42-year-old Cantona. "Many of my best memories are from when I was at the club and in Manchester. I'm very proud the fans still like me.

"I gave a lot for the club but the fans gave me so much back. It is something that will stay with me forever."

Cantona stars in and is also a co-producer of the movie - directed by Ken Loach - about the life of a United fan who imagines the enigmatic Frenchman is by his side, helping him cope with life's challenges.

The film, the brainchild of Cantona, mirrors his relationship with United fans.

"I don't know why the relationship I had with the fans, and the fans with me, was so special," said Cantona.

"I think that's maybe a question that a United fan would have to answer. I think if you have personality then it interests the fans.

"I felt the relationship every time I was on the pitch."
