Man Utd legend: Bayern not prepared for Arsenal striker Giroud

Rio Ferdinand has said that he believes Bayern Munich were not prepared for Arsenal to bring on Olivier Giroud in their match on Tuesday night.

Bayern were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates with Giroud scoring the opening goal and Ferdinand believes that introduction of the Frenchman to replace Theo Walcott was the decisive moment.

Giroud offered Arsenal a more focal point up front and Ferdinand felt that his physical presence upset the Bayern back four.

Ferdinand told BT Sport: "I don't think Bayern were ready for that type of player to come on, they were all geared up to play against pace.

"As a defender you play against pace, pace, pace all game and them someone comes on and he wants the ball in and wants to be physical and you have to change your game quickly as a defender. If you are not on it, you can find that difficult."
