David Beckham is being linked with a potential MLS expansion franchise in Miami.

Reuters' Simon Evans posted on Twitter on Tuesday that the former Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, LA Galaxy and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder will meet with billionaire Marcelo Claure in Miami to talk over plans to put forward a proposal for the 21st MLS license.

Evans wrote: "Fascinating development in Beckham - MLS Miami process - billionaire Marcelo Claure to meet with Beckham this week.

"Understand that any Beckham meetings will be still of an exploratory nature and no decisions on location for his franchise taken yet.

"Also hearing Beckham may visit some other cities as part of his exploration of possible locations for a new MLS franchise."

Beckham had a clause in his MLS contract allowing him to buy into a franchise once his playing days were over and it appears he will take the league up on that although the destination of the new club is still a long way off being decided.
