Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone appears to have said his farewell to Aston Villa.

Johnstone was part of Villa's run to the promotion playoff, where they were beaten by Fulham at Wembley on Saturday.

"I am proud to say I've played for Aston Villa. To be able to perform in front of a full Villa Park for the past 18 months has been so special to me with ups and downs along the way, learning so much each day and each game," he wrote on Instagram.

"What a great group of lads, staff and fans Aston Villa has. Be proud."

Johnstone still has a year on his United deal.
