Manchester United are believed to be heavily interested in Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

As United boss Sir Alex Ferguson continues the search for Edwin van der Sar's long-term replacement, Neuer has emerged as a likely candidate after goalkeeping coach Eric Steele was sent to see the 24-year old German in action.

Neuer is rated at around £10million and is expected to be either first or second choice stopper for Germany's World Cup campaign.
