Manchester United are ready to step up their interest in Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill.
Cahill has been linked with Chelsea and Arsenal, though Trotters boss Owen Coyle insisted no offers arrived for the England man in January.
The Telegraph says Rio Ferdinand's injury problems in recent seasons have become a genuine cause of concern for manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
And he is now having Cahill tracked by scouts leading up to the summer transfer window.
