MAN UTD IN AMERICA: Carrick happy with mix of youth and star quality

Michael Carrick admits the current Manchester United squad has a nice balance of talented youth and world-class stars.

The Red Devils have signed Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Matteo Darmian which has fans excited but veteran midfielder Carrick says the should be as equally awakened by youngsters like Jesse Lingard and Adnan Januzaj who scored in the 3-1 pre-season win over Barcelona on Saturday.

"Developing young players is what this club is about and it's what it should be about," the vice-captain told ManUtd.com.

"Of course we want the best players from around the world because we want to be the best team, but you want the balance of bringing players through too.

"We've got a great record of doing that over the years and we're doing that again, which is great to see."

United, who have won all three matches on their tour of the USA so far, next meet Paris-Saint Germain in Chicago on Wednesday.
