Manchester United hope an improved offer for Everton pair Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines will ease the tension between the two clubs. The Mirror says United's David Moyes will turn up the heat on previous employers Everton with an improved £35million combined bid for Fellaini and Baines.

The Old Trafford giants intend to test Everton's determination to keep the pair and increase that "derisory and insulting" opening offer.

The next offer will rate Belgian midfielder Fellaini at £20m - still less than the value of his now-expired release clause - and England left-back Baines at £15m.

Moyes, who has struck out on the transfer front so far this summer since taking over from the retired Sir Alex Ferguson, is determined to land two of his Goodison old boys - aware that the Toffees need to sell to buy.
