Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has indicated that Rio Ferdinand has been given a testimonial by the club.
The 34-year old defender, who comes out of contract in the summer, has completed a decade of service at Old Trafford following his 2002 move from Leeds United and will be honoured by the club despite the fact he may be looking for a new contract somewhere else.
"I have spoken to Rio," said Ferguson.
"I would imagine the best thing for him would be to stay but at this moment in time he is more concerned about getting an opponent for his testimonial game.
"But we want him to stay and I am sure his representatives will be talking about that with David (Gill)."
