Former Manchester United midfielder Ray Wilkins says Wayne Rooney should join Everton.

Wilkins believes Rooney should stay in the Premier League and return to being a genuine No.9, where he achieved his best success in front of goal.

"I wouldn't like to see him go to China," the former Chelsea and United midfielder said on talkSPORT.

"I still think he has so much to offer, I really do.

"I just wish that when Wayne is picked as a forward player, he just stays up the pitch and doesn't work his socks off to come back and help out.

"Ibrahimovic this season got 28 goals for Manchester United before his unfortunate injury, but what does he do?

"He plays in his area, when the ball is in his area, Ibrahimovic comes alive.

"I'd love to see him play up front and just play up front.

"When the ball's in your area, then play. I still think he has so much to offer."
