Former Manchester United and Everton striker Norman Whiteside admits he could've done better in his time at Goodison Park.
He told evertonfc.com: "Coming from Man Utd to Everton, the goal I scored in the FA Cup final in 1985 was always going to be spoken about. Me and Neville Southall used to talk about it. I scored a very good goal but the thing that made it more important for me was that I scored against the best keeper in the world at that time - which was Neville.
"That made the goal. It's great scoring the winning goal in a Cup final - but to say that you scored a goal against Neville Southall gives it that little bit more credit.
"In the end, Everton didn't get the best out of me which I'm sorry for. When I went to see the doctor, he said to me: 'I'm being honest here, you're time is up'.
"I just felt a little bit sorry for the Club; I had two years left on my contract. In a way I did the Club a bit of a favour in leaving with two years left in my contract, because I could have sat down and picked the money up. But that wasn't me and the Club deserved better than that.
"Having to retire so young was horrible. Horrible. The hardest thing was working out what I was going do with my life. I mean I woke up, crying my eyes out with no work to go to. I just loved going in and having a laugh in the dressing room with the boys and going out and training."
