Former Manchester United star Lee Sharpe was unimpressed by Louis van Gaal team selection for defeat at Arsenal.

Sharpe felt Van Gaal gaffed with his midfield choices.

"The dividing line between genius and madness is thin and I'm not sure which side Van Gaal is on now," Sharpe told Four Four Two.

"Sometimes I think he is brilliant, then I think he's quite disturbed.

"To start against Arsenal with Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger ... yeah, those two together are not really the fastest."

Sharpe added: "I was surprised that the club bought Anthony Martial when everyone could see that a central defender was needed."
