Wayne Rooney has admitted that it was a bit strange for him to receive all the attention during his testimonial against Everton on Wednesday night.
Ever since breaking onto the scene as a fresh-faced teenager for Everton back in 2002, Rooney has constantly been in the media spotlight and the striker must surely be used to the attention by now.
That being said, Rooney has always been a team player and the 30-year-old admitted that it was strange for him to be the subject of so much adulation before and after his testimonial match against boyhood club Everton at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Rooney told MUTV: "It's a team game – that's why it was a bit strange going out and getting all the attention before the game.
'I was just happy when the game kicked off and it was back to normality and playing with my team-mates!
"But it's a one-off game and you have to appreciate it and take it in because it will never happen again. I remember a lot of moments from my time here and hopefully there will be more to come."
