Man Utd hero Parker urges Johnson to stay with Portsmouth

Former Manchester United and England fullback Paul Parker says Glen Johnson is crazy to be thinking about quitting Portsmouth.

Parker told The News: "He is playing for England on the back of his performances with Portsmouth. Not Chelsea, not Liverpool. I don't see the point of him leaving, especially for Chelsea and Liverpool. Wrong moves like that could set his career back.

"Let's face it, he was not right for Chelsea the first time around. A lot of people said he changed character and became something he should not have. Playing for Portsmouth brought him back into the real world so why would be go back there?

"If I was him, I certainly wouldn't.

"Chelsea are only seen as a big club because of Roman Abramovich's money. There's no heritage there. As for Liverpool, I don't think the way they play would suit him.

"Rafa Benitez is very defensive, even if they did change it a bit towards the end of last season.

"He doesn't play with full-backs like Glen who want to go forward all the time. There is no point him being there if he is not given that freedom.

"Of course Glen has aspirations of going to a big club - but I reckon he should stay where he is and enjoy his football."
