Former Manchester United defender Gary Pallister admits he has never fancied following his ex-teammates into management.
Pally is still close to his old defensive partner Steve Bruce, now in charge of Birmingham City, and told the Telegraph: "You have to be your own man.
"But you would be foolish not to pick up things from a manager (Sir Alex Ferguson) like that.
"You have to have that work ethic and that steely discipline. Let them know who's boss. I'm sure it's something Robbo [Bryan Robson], Mark Hughes, Roy Keane and Steve try to instill in their teams because once you lose that air about you, and the players think they can take advantage, things go downhill. The type of people Sir Alex likes to have in his team are technically very good, but also have that grit and determination. Now they want it from their players."
