Ince, a former England captain whose son Tom is on the books at Derby, is now a regular presence in the boardroom and is developing a relationship with Morris akin to Crystal Palace legend Mark Bright's unofficial advisory role to their chairman Steve Parish.
Derby have been linked with moves for Nigel Pearson and David Moyes but are keen to give Wassall a proper opportunity with Ince providing his know how in the background.
