Paul Ince hopes Manchester United are patient with Angel di Maria.
Di Maria has failed to make his mark this year.
Ince told the Daily Star Sunday: "When he first came, it looked as though he had hit the ground running.
"It's been harder for him lately but I'd be patient.
"Anyone who plays for Real Madrid is a good player.
"He just needs time to settle into a new country. I remember when I went to Inter Milan how difficult it was to adjust to a new footballing culture and a different way of life.
"Being in a new country takes its toll on a player. It takes time to settle. Once Di Maria does feel comfortable, United will discover they have a great player."
