Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes that his former club would struggle in attempting to lure Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.
United were linked with many centre-halves all summer, as it was a priority position for manager Jose Mourinho.
But no one was signed. And Ferdinand believes the price of someone like Varane would be too much, even for United.
He said on BT Sport: "The likes of Raphael Varane, who has proved himself to be the best defender on the planet right now, I think he will be too far to go and get him, the amount of money.
"I don't think Real Madrid would sell."
