Man Utd head-to-head with Man City for £200,000-a-week Sneijder

Manchester United and Manchester City are going head-to-head for Wesley Sneijder. The Manchester Evening News says Manchester might be the capital of world football but both clubs have so far hit a brick wall in their hunt for a new central midfielder to pull the strings next season.

But the playmaker they both need and is still available - albeit at £30m - is Dutch World Cup superstar Sneijder.

Sir Alex Ferguson has now crossed Tottenham's Luka Modric off his list of candidates to replace the retired Paul Scholes.

Spurs have stated categorically the Croatian is not for sale, but even if they can be beaten into submission it is Chelsea who hold the aces with the 25-year old revealing he would prefer the short switch from North to West London ahead of moving to Manchester.

The most coveted engine room player in Europe remains Inter Milan's Sneijder.

Both United and City want the inspirational 27-year-old and a head-to-head between Manchester's big two is underway for the player who would be able to demand a £200,000-a-week salary.
