Man Utd have some catching up to do - Shearer

Alan Shearer believes Jose Mourinho's Manchester United are well behind neighbours Manchester City.

The Red Devils were beaten 2-1 by Pep Guardiola's side at Old Trafford on Saturday, prompting the former England star to suggest that while United have improved from last season, they remain some way in arrears of their crosstown rivals.

"While Manchester United have had a good start to the season, there were a few worrying signs in this game," he wrote in The Sun.

"It is already a step up from the Louis van Gaal reign but, for now, they have some catching up to do to get to City's level.

"And City are only halfway to where Guardiola wants them to be — that is a big concern for Mourinho and everyone else."
