Man Utd haters have Bolton skipper Davies trending on Twitter

Bolton Wanderers skipper Kevin Davies has been abused by Manchester United fans over his tackle on Tom Cleverley.

Davies and wife Emma have been swamped with abuse from United fans for the Bolton skipper's tackle on Cleverley in Saturday's Reebok derby, says the Manchester Evening News.

Davies contacted the England Under-21 international immediately after the champions' 5-0 victory to wish him a speedy recovery.

But it didn't prevent Reds supporters using Twitter to castigate the veteran forward for his challenge that left Cleverley with damaged ankle ligaments.

With Davies no longer a member of the Twitterati, it was left to Emma to defend his name.

"Seem to have 500 MUFC new followers. How lovely," she tweeted sarcastically.

Such was the depth of feeling among 'keyboard warriors' the subject of Davies and his tackling, the topic was among the most tweeted subjects.

And that prompted Emma to add: 'My gorgeous, talented, wonderful husband is trending. How nice.'
