Manchester United's hat-trick hero Michael Owen has played down his performance in Tuesday night's Champions League win over Wolfsburg.
Owen netted once in the first half before adding two late goals to give United the win and top spot in their group in a match they were widely tipped to lose due to the absence of almost all of their key defenders.
But as usual, the quality of the Red Devils shone through and Owen paid homage to his teammates for another outstanding performance.
"Me getting three goals will probably grab the headlines, but it was a great team performance," Owen told Sky Sports 2.
"I was playing deep with us having so many players out and we were trying to protect the back four."
Owen said he was now looking forward to the next phase of the tournament as the top-ranked team from their group but admitted a weaker opponent would be preferred.
"It's great being top so we play at home second," he said. "But I'm not going to lie, you want as weak a side as possible.
"[But] if a team's got to first or second in the Champions League, there's no weak sides, although you obviously want to avoid the big boys."
