Manchester United are handing Danny Welbeck a new long-term contract.

The Sun says Welbeck, 20, will sit down with United officials in the next month to rubberstamp a £45,000-a-week deal.

It is his reward for the outstanding strides he has made since returning to Old Trafford this season.

Welbeck, who spent last term on loan at Sunderland, has 18 months left on his existing deal and currently earns £15,000 a week before bonuses.

It will include incremental rises that could ultimately reach £65,000 a week if he hits appearance and goal targets.
