Man Utd to hand Carrick new deal

Manchester United are ready to hand Michael Carrick a new one-year deal.

The Mail on Sunday says United will activate a one-year extension of Carrick's £130,000-a-week contract to keep the midfielder at Old Trafford beyond the summer.

Carrick agreed to the clause when he signed a two-year deal in 2013 and has expressed a wish to stay.

The midfielder, 33, has been one of their most influential players since his return from injury and it has coincided with an upturn in fortunes for the club.
