Man Utd haggling over Garay fee payment with Benfica

Manchester United face missing out on long-term transfer target Ezequiel Garay.

The Daily Star Sunday says sources in Portugal insist that it's a done deal with his club Benfica, but there is a disagreement over the method of payment for his £21.5 million fee.

And Garay, 26, has been house hunting in the Manchester area, while the Lisbon giants will sign defender Lisandro Lopez, 23, to replace him. The deal was expected to go through last month but a sticking point has now emerged - with the two sides arguing over the transfer payments.

United have offered just £12.9m up front, with the rest payable in add-ons - depending on how successful Garay is at Old Trafford.

That has angered Benfica, who insist that the player will not be allowed to leave unless the full price is met.
