Manchester United are intensifying their pursuit of Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain.

The Sunday Mirror says the Argentine striker has two years left on his current deal.

But United boss Louis van Gaal had him watched in Serie A action against Roma last week. Higuain, 28, fits the bill for United who want to add to their squad a proven striker with top-level international experience.

Higuain is a hard-working team player as well as a consistent goal-scorer.

He's also a sound dressing-room influence who will help the likes of Marcus Rashford and allow Wayne Rooney to play in a deeper-lying role.
