Man Utd great Yorke: Benteke return will lift Aston Villa

Dwight Yorke is confident that Christian Benteke's return will lift Aston Villa's goalscoring output.

The Belgian striker has been sidelined with an Achilles injury since April but could be back in action for the visit of reigning champions Manchester City on Saturday.

So far this season, with Benteke out of action, Paul Lambert's side have scored just four goals in six Premier League matches but the return of the former Genk man will boost the West Midlands club in attack according to former Villa and Manchester United star Yorke.

"It's been a long time and he has to take it easy but it is good news for Villa," Yorke told Sky Sports.

"He had an amazing first season and there's always one unknown candidate who comes in who people are not sure of, like (Leonardo) Ulloa at Leicester this season.

"The last two or three seasons have not been great (for Aston Villa) and there was one in particular where Benteke kept them up.

"There are always questions of whether he could do it the next year but unfortunately the injury knocked him down, he missed the World Cup and dropped behind (Romelu) Lukaku (for Belgium)."
