Peter Schmeichel is of the belief that Wayne Rooney should become the new captain at Manchester United.
New United boss Louis van Gaal is still deciding who he will install as skipper for the 2014/15 Premier League season with suggestions that Robin van Persie and Rooney are the frontrunners.
While van Persie was van Gaal's captain of the Holland national team, the Dutchman handed the armband to Rooney for the 3-1 Guinness International Champions Cup win over Liverpool, hinting that perhaps the England international could be the new leder.
Legendary goalkeeper Schmeichel is all for Rooney being named as skipper and hopes van Gaal opts for United's third-highest goalscorer of all time.
"What I really like about Rooney is his attitude towards playing for United," the great Dane told Sky Sports.
"Wherever the manager tells him to play he will do that with a smile on his face.
"He realises his importance to the team and if he has to play in midfield, it's for the team. You get that with experience and matureness.
"So I think he's the obvious choice for the captaincy."
