Man Utd great Pallister praises summer activity of big Premier League clubs

Former Manchester United star Gary Pallister believes there is a fresh excitement surrounding the Premier League.

Ahead of Monday night's meeting between north-west rivals United and Liverpool, the Red Devils great spoke of the influx of quality players and coaches in England's top flight over the summer, which has given the bigger clubs in the league a much-needed kick after Leicester City's title triumph.

Neighbours Manchester City appointed Pep Guardiola and made some key signings, Antonio Conte joined Chelsea along with some quality players, while Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were all busy in the transfer market.

"All the top clubs have looked at themselves and improved after last year," he said at the launch of Marathonbet's United live online casino, as quoted by the Daily Express.

"They would have felt a bit embarrassed by how things went for them and they've tried to put things right. They've all spent money and looking a lot better.

"We all want to see the rivalries, creating big teams and the exciting football. That was something which was missing last season."

Speaking of rivalries in particular, Pallister also touched on Monday night's north-west derby between his beloved United and arch enemies Liverpool.

"The games against Liverpool are always important," he added.

"It means so much to the United fans, up against a club with the success Liverpool have had."
