Manchester United legend Andy Cole has praised Liverpool's potential £12.5million acquisition of Southampton's Nathaniel Clyne.

Cole told express.co.uk that he believes the imminent signing of the England international would be a shrewd piece of business by the Reds.

"Nathaniel Clyne going to Liverpool sounds like a good deal to me. I think he is the best right back in the country, I really do," Cole said.

"He has done very well at Southampton and at £12m Liverpool have got a good deal, it's not ridiculous money so both parties will be happy with that.

"He's a good player, he has proved that at Southampton and he was massively disappointed he didn't play for England and so he should be.

"He's the best right back, and he is a right back. That's England putting round pegs in square holes again."
