Sir Alex Ferguson says he will give Wayne Rooney every conceivable chance of proving his fitness for Manchester United's meeting with Newcastle United this weekend.
The second-placed Red Devils host the fourth-placed Magpies at Old Trafford on Saturday but after missing last night's Champions League draw with Benfica because of a hip injury, Rooney is in doubt.
"He wasn't fit for tonight so we need to wait to see what he is like over the next few days," Ferguson said last night.
"We will give him every chance, of course, we did for today, but he wasn't really fit, so we'll just have to wait."
