Manchester United fullback Timothy Fosu-Mensah feels his grounding at Ajax was the making of him.

The Dutch youngster has just completed an impressive season on-loan with Crystal Palace.

He told Voetbalzone: "I learned a lot at Ajax. I was there for eight years and will always be grateful to the club for the time that has been invested in me, but leaving was the best decision I have taken.

"I was young and I liked a challenge. That's why I made the choice to go to Manchester United and then I just did my stinking best. Whether the challenge at Ajax was less? Not so much, but I had the chance go to Man United and that is very special at such a young age."
