Manchester United's France captain Patrice Evra has sparked controversy in his homeland.
Evra has persuade the French Football Federation to fly the players' WAGs to the World Cup.
Raymond Domenech's men were originally due to get a visit from their partners only if they reached the quarter-finals in South Africa.
But the Manchester United full back, effectively Les Bleus' shop steward, has convinced the French FA to stump up £200,000 on a four-day jaunt for the wives and girlfriends to take in Friday's opening clash with Uruguay in Cape Town.
Leading news site Le Post raged: "Evra is a good negotiator. He has convinced Les Bleus to bend the rules. Maybe Domenech is sure France won't make the last eight, and that explains why he has given in.
"Can't these millionaire footballers afford air tickets for their wives?
"The FFF has to foot a hefty bill of 240,000 euros for a romantic trip for these ladies. But they have social responsibilities as well.
"That money could have gone to help junior clubs, buying shirts and boots for children whose parents can't afford kit."
