Manchester United are having to manage the fitness of Antonio Valencia.

The Daily Star says United are nursing skipper Valencia through a knee problem and are hoping it will not lead to him needing an operation in the near future.

The club's medical department are closely monitoring the issue and the wing-back has had a scan.

But Valencia, 32, is reluctant to take himself out of the picture at such a busy and important stage of the season.

He rests the injury when he can between matches, but a clean-out procedure is possible at some point.
