Man Utd fear Rooney to be hit by extended ban

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has concerns over a lengthy ban after his two yellow cards against Fulham on Saturday.

The Daily Mail says Rooney was sent off by referee Phil Dowd a minute from the end of their second successive league defeat and remonstrated with the official after he was shown a red card.

The United striker confronted Dowd and jabbed his finger towards the official's face, clearly shouting to him that he was 'only giving the f*****g ball back' when he hurled it towards Ryan Giggs.

Dowd is expected to include details of the incident in his report to the FA and it means Rooney could be handed an extra one-game suspension if Soho Square decide to clamp down.

His dismissal for two yellow cards means he will miss United's clash with Aston Villa at Old Trafford on April 5, but he could also sit out the following game against Sunderland on April 11.

The United striker had already been booked for tugging at Olivier Dacourt's shorts and was given another yellow card for dissent when he hurled the ball in the direction of Dowd.
