Manchester United face competition for Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is considering Matic as his first major midfield signing in six years and made enquiries last week for the Serb.

Record says United are prepared to make a bid for the ex-Chelsea junior, but will face stiff competition from Premier League rivals.

Manchester City and former club Chelsea are also interested in Matic, whose contract carries a €42 million buyout clause.
