Manchester United face competition from Barcelona for Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay.
Punto Pelota says a summer move to United failed to materialise with the clubs thought to be unable to agree on the value of Garay, with Benfica holding out for over £20m.
Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino has identified Garay as the man to fill Carles Puyol's shoes.
Garay's quality on the ball would make him an excellent fit at Barcelona, but a potential stumbling block could be the defender's Real Madrid history.
