Manchester United's pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo is being boosted by a breakdown between Real Madrid and the player's agent. The Daily Star says it is being suggested that super-agent Jorge Mendes is engineering an Old Trafford return for the Ballon d'Or holder in what would be a hugely profitable transfer for the deal broker.
Mendes has had a public falling out with Real's president Florentino Perez over the transfers of Radamel Falcao and Angel di Maria to United this summer and it is claimed the 48-year-old wants to win the war of words with a decisive action - forcing a move for Ronaldo.
Perez was angered by Mendes' approval of Di Maria's goodbye letter to Real fans shortly after he secured his move to Old Trafford.
And the pair's argument is believed to have forced Falcao to Old Trafford rather than the Bernabeu.
United have proved this summer they are no longer afraid to splash the cash and Old Trafford could be the go-to destination for players who want to earn mega bucks.
