Man Utd encouraged in bid for Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels

Manchester United are encouraged over their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels. The People says the 26-year-old is a long-term target and United were keen last summer.

Dortmund refused to do business then but, as a disappointing season stutters towards an end, the Bundesliga club are looking to fund a shake-up in the summer.

That has alerted United to the fact that the Germany centre-back, who has little more than two years to run on his contract, could be picked up for around £20million.

Hummels, capped 38 times by his country, was upset with fans who booed his side off at half-time during their Champions League last-16 second-leg tie at home to Juventus on Wednesday.

The Italian side won 3-0 to go through by a thumping 5-1 aggregate score.
