Manchester United defender Chris Smalling says the England camp were shocked by Wayne Rooney's three-match ban.

Smalling was devastated by the three-game international ban handed out to his pal by UEFA last Friday.

But he said: "We were all shocked but since then he just seems to have carried on as normal - as you saw by his two goals in midweek.

"This is the sort of game he'll thrive in. We all remember that wonder goal he scored last year and I'm sure he's got a taste for more against them."
