Marcos Rojo has been diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder, sustained at Manchester United training.
The Argentine defender re-injured the shoulder he hurt last season and has been sent for scans to determine the extent of the damage.
The news has dampened United's preparations for the weekend's clash with West Ham United and may force manager Louis van Gaal to shuffle his defence by playing Daley Blind at left-back.
Van Gaal is already without left-back Luke Shaw and the injury to the left-sided Rojo sees him short on defenders, which could quite possibly see him active in the January transfer window.
