Phil Jones admits his battle with a blood clot earlier this season was a scary affair.
The 23-year-old defender missed the beginning of the campaign with Manchester United having suffered the issue during pre-season but is now back in full flight, preparing for England's friendly with France at Wembley on Wednesday night.
Jones has revealed that it was indeed a daunting time for him but is glad to be back on the pitch with help from blood thinning medication.
"It was pretty frightening at first at least until I found out the extent of the injury," he said.
"I thought nothing of it at first. We got back to England but a couple of days before we played Tottenham in the first game of the season I felt it again.
"I just said to the doctor at United 'it's just not going away'.
"So we had a scan then and discovered there was a blood clot in the calf. It's not from the tackle or a stupid injury, it was just a freak incident."
The Red Devils star added: "It was probably the most frustrating time of my career, not being able to train with the squad or go anywhere near them.
"That's gone now, that's the past. I'm looking forward to the future. I'm glad to be back involved playing."
