Man Utd defender Ferdinand offered Olympics hope after England snub

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand could pop up at the London Olympics after his England Euros snub.

The Manchester Evening News says it remains to be seen if Ferdinand and even Michael Carrick will join the Olympic reckoning with coach Stuart Pearce able to name three players over the age of 23.

Giggs and David Beckham look set to take up two of those spots and, given Ferdinand's status in the modern game, he would be an ideal candidate.
