Man Utd defender Ferdinand: I will be fit for World Cup

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is adamant he will be fit for the World Cup.

Ferdinand, 31, saw a back specialist two weeks ago to ensure that all his problems have cleared up.

The defender has started only 12 league games for Manchester United this season.

But now he believes he is through it all and ready to lead his country in South Africa.

Ferdinand said: "It has been a frustrating time but you've got to get on with it.

"Hopefully now I'm coming out the back end of it and, fingers crossed, I will not get any more injuries."

Ferdinand admits he is desperate to be England skipper at the finals after succeeding John Terry.

He said: "It's every kid's dream. It's an incredible honour and I think it will only sink in when the time comes."
